As nuclear plant technology has evolved, so has the wide array of codes and standards used

Electricity generation from nuclear power in the United States began in 1958. As of 2023, nuclear power represented nearly 20% of the total annual U.S. electric power generation. Currently, there are 93 commercial operating reactors located at 54 power plant sites in the United States (Ref. 1). The latest completed reactor is Vogtle Unit 4, located in Georgia, which was finished in 2023. The photos in this article not only show the extent of that project but also its complexity.
